The college maintained absolute silence in the face of repeated faculty questions on Col. Henry Zimon's academic credentials, which had been raised even before Col. Zimon was hired by the college.
To date, neither the college nor Col. Zimon have offered any public evidence refuting the allegations against the president. Mr. Paul Gazzerro, executive vice president for administration and finance, issued the following statement the day The Chronicle of Higher Education published the first of its four stories on the allegations.
"The allegations about the credentials of President Henry A. Zimon as reported by The Chronicle of Higher Education are false and totally groundless.
"Each and every question raised about President Zimon's resume was thoroughly addressed to the satisfaction of both the Presidential Search Committee and Board of Trustees before and after President Zimon was appointed president in February 1999.
"All of President Zimon's credentials as described on his resume were discussed in full detail with the Presidential Search Committee, which was made up of faculty, administrators, trustees, alumni and students, and the Board of Trustees.
"Albright College and its Board of Trustees have full confidence in President Zimon and consider the matter closed."
