Resume of first presidential candidate (Col. Henry Zimon) is distributed to Faculty and Staff.
Friday, February 5, 1999
On-campus interview of Col. Henry Zimon.
Saturday, February 6, 1999
Resume of second presidential candidate (Bob Edgar) is distributed to Faculty and Staff.
Monday, February 8, 1999
On-campus interview of Bob Edgar.
Tuesday, February 9, 1999
Presidential Search Committee recommends Col. Zimon to the Board of Trustees, which selects Col. Zimon as president of Albright College, effective June 1999.
Mid-February, 1999
Results of Faculty queries begun the first week of February concerning Henry Zimon's resume reveal discrepancies between Col. Zimon's claims and the facts as confirmed by outside sources.
Spring, 1999
Numerous requests are made to Col. Zimon to provide information which would allow members of the faculty to reconcile the claims made on Col. Zimon's resume with the information provided by Peter Kracht, the publisher of Praeger, and others. Some additional information is provided at meetings and by e-mail, but the inconsistencies are not resolved.
September 8, 1999
Pres. Zimon is asked about his forthcoming book at his first Faculty Meeting. He states for the first time to the Faculty that his manuscript is co-authored. He also indicates that while he has a contract with Praeger, he is hoping to find a different publisher for his manuscript.
October 15, 1999
The Chronicle of Higher Education publishes an article entitled "Albright College President's Credentials Questioned" explaining the controversy over Pres. Zimon's credentials and confirming the concerns of members of Albright's Faculty. This article is the lead article in the on-line edition. The article also appears in its Oct. 22 print edition.
October 16, 1999
Vice President Paul Gazzerro issues a reply to the Chronicle article on behalf of the college categorically denying the allegations.
November 10, 1999
The Albright Faculty authorizes the Faculty Executive Committee to meet with the Executive Committee of the Trustees in an effort to address the allegations against Pres. Zimon and to find a resolution to the crisis satisfactory to both the Faculty and the Trustees.
November 12, 1999
The Chronicle of Higher Education publishes an on-line article entitled "Albright College Faculty Members and Trustees Agree on a Joint Probe of President's Credentials."
November 12, 1999
Mr John F. Horrigan issues a statement asserting that the trustees had not agreed to an investigation, but rather to "review and discuss" the issues "in order to bring closure to the matter."
December 2, 1999
The Executive Committee of the Trustees and the Faculty Executive Committee issue a joint statement on the results of their meeting on the allegations against Pres. Zimon.
December 9, 1999
The Chronicle of Higher Education publishes an online article, reprinted in its Dec. 12 print edition, reporting that faculty members accuse the joint committee of attempting to whitewash the controversy surrounding Pres. Zimon's credentials.
December 14, 1999
The Albright Faculty rejects the joint statement of the Trustee and Faculty executive committees as inadequate. The Faculty issues its own statement critical of the search process and the "pattern of denial, accusation and secrecy."
March 1, 2000
J. Matthew Simon, an Albright College Alumnus and Trustee resigns from Albright's Board of Trustees in protest over the Board's handling of the Presidential Search and the controversy surrounding Pres. Zimon.
March 16, 2000
The Chronicle of Higher Education publishes an on-line article entitled "Albright College Trustee Resigns Over Handling of Controversy about President's Resume." The article also appears in the March 24, 2000 print edition of the Chronicle of Higher Education, reporting that Trustee Mathew Simon is charging Pres. Zimon and the executive committee of the Board of Trustees of withholding information and trying to cover up the controversy.
